Residence Halls

Living in a residence hall can be one of the most enjoyable aspects of the college experience. Residence life provides an environment that fosters the academic and personal growth that helps students prepare for the rest of their lives.

Responsibility for the over 1,500 student campus residents and for the overall operation of the residence hall system belongs to the director of residence life. Residence coordinator offices are located on the first floors of Cypress (973-596-5402), Laurel (973-642-7271), Oak (973-596-5683) and Redwood (973-596-5414) halls, with office hours Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

The addresses and phone numbers of the residence hall desks are:

Cypress Hall 180 Bleeker St 973-642-7161
Laurel Hall 141 Summit St 973-596-5792
Oak Hall 155 Summit St. 973-596-5636
Redwood Hall 186 Bleeker St. 973-596-3040

In an emergency, assistance can be obtained by contacting the front desk of each residence hall or the Department of Public Safety.

At least one resident assistant is assigned to each floor of Cypress, Laurel and Redwood Halls. One community assistant is assigned to two floors in Oak Hall, our apartment style building.  The resident and community assistants have many roles such as activities organizer, resource person, peer administrator and friend.

Desk attendants provide security for the residence halls by monitoring the entrance. When a guest arrives, a desk attendant notifies the resident who is required to come to the lobby and meet the guest. Guests age 15 and younger must be accompanied by an adult and are not permitted to stay overnight without permission of the residence coordinator. Guests also are not allowed in the residence halls without a host.

Residents must show valid NJIT resident identification to gain entrance to the building. Both desk attendants and electronic access card readers located at entrances to the residence halls strictly enforce that policy. Guests are permitted with identification, but may not stay in a residence hall more than two nights a week. To sign into a residence hall, all guests must provide one of the following, which will be retained at the desk until the guest departs:
