Through this peer-to-peer education program, EcoHighlanders will represent sustainability at NJIT! Students will encourage peers in residence halls to live more sustainably and staff/faculty will promote sustainability with their coworkers and classrooms. Students

The EcoHighlander program provides a scholarship opportunity for passionate sustainability-minded student leaders within NJIT residence halls to engage peers in taking collective action towards creating a more eco-conscious resident community. 

EcoHighlanders will be expected to engage with their residence hall leadership team/RAs to implement sustainability initiatives and eco-friendly events, such as clothing swaps, energy-saving competitions, donation drives, and more! They will be expected to devote 2-3 hours of work per week towards their chosen sustainability projects alongside the other EcoHighlander representatives for their residence hall.

Staff

Faculty/staff with a passion for sustainability will be able to volunteer as EcoHighlanders in 10 academic and administrative buildings at NJIT. They will tackle problems of insufficient waste management and lack of sustainable actions by increasing awareness of recycling, reducing consumption, and more. 

The progress for each participating building and the associated EcoHighlanders will be reviewed through a mid semester check-in, along with an end of the year celebration where awards and superlatives will be presented for the most outstanding successes and events.
