Health Insurance and Waiver Information

To comply with the New Jersey law requiring full time students to maintain health insurance, NJIT provides a Student Health Insurance Program.  All full-time undergraduate students with at least 12 credit hours, graduate students with at least 9 credit hours, and F1 and J1 international students with 3 credit hours or more are automatically enrolled and billed under this plan.  However, coverage may be waived by providing proof of other insurance.  The coverage for international students includes repatriation and medical evacuation benefits.

The Student Health Insurance Program is also available for part-time students, both undergraduate and graduate, as well as for dependent children and spouses of students who are enrolled in the plan.  Dependent children and spouses must be enrolled directly with the plan administrator, T.L. Groseclose Associates, Inc.  The period of coverage for the full year is August 21 to August 20, and the period of coverage for a half-year is January 19 to August 20.

Students may waive the NJIT health insurance coverage by certifying that they have equivalent insurance coverage.  To waive the NJIT health insurance, please complete the online Insurance Waiver Card NO LATER THAN SEPTEMBER 15, 2011.  Please keep a record of the confirmation number you are given for future reference.  The reversal of the student health insurance premium will be reflected on the student account on the following business day. For new students enrolling for the first time as of Spring semester 2012, the waiver deadline date is February 3, 2012.

Full Time Domestic Students As Of The End Of The 100% Drop-Add Period:  If you drop below 12 credits (undergraduate) or 9 credits (graduate) during the 100% refund period, you will not be covered under the NJIT Student Health Insurance Program and the health insurance premium will be reversed from your student account.

International Students:  You must remain enrolled for a minimum of 31 days with at least 3 credits in order to maintain coverage.

30-Day Open Enrollment Period is available for the Fall semester until early October and for the Spring semester until mid-February.  Students who are not automatically enrolled in the NJIT Student Health Insurance Program may enroll directly with T.L. Groseclose Associates.
