Saturday Morning STEM (SMS)
Join us on Saturday Mornings! Saturday Morning STEM is a five-class series of hands-on experiences designed to introduce 5th - 12th grade students to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Courses are in-person at the NJIT Newark Campus.
SMS Middle School Sessions
On campus every Saturday, January 9 - February 6, 2026 from 9 am to 12 pm.
5th and 6th Grade Robo Rangers students will explore robotics and engineering concepts using the VEX IQ kit. Over five weeks, students will progress from learning about robot components and building simple structures to designing manipulators, testing robot soccer strategies, and refining competition-ready Clawbots. The course emphasizes hands-on building, teamwork, problem-solving, and iterative design, culminating in the “Up and Over” competition challenge.
7th and 8th Grade Computer Science with the micro:bit brings code to life in this hands-on winter program. Using the British Broadcasting Corporation micro:bit, students will learn core computer science concepts like loops, conditionals, variables, and events by building interactive projects that light up, sense motion, play sounds, and respond to the world around them. Working on Microsoft MakeCode, students start with block coding and grow toward text-based code as their skills develop. The program finishes with a dive into MakeCode Arcade, where students design and code their own retro-style video game. No prior experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to experiment.
Program Costs: $399 per student (includes all academic materials)
Registration deadline: December 7, 2026
Payment Deadline: December 14, 2026
5th and 6th Grade Code AI App Developing is an engaging and hands-on program designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of computer science and artificial intelligence. Students will design, code, and deploy their own interactive mobile applications by the conclusion of the program.
7th and 8th Grade Aeronautical Engineering explores principles of flight, aerodynamics, and structural design through hands on projects testing lift, drag and principles of aircraft stability. The program fosters creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork, helping students develop skills essential for future STEM opportunities.
Program Costs: $399 per student (includes all academic materials)
Registration deadline: September 30, 2026
Payment Deadline: October 2, 2026
5th and 6th Grade - Robotics is an interactive course introducing students to the world of creative coding through hands-on exploration with Sphero robots and Makey Makey invention kits. Students will learn the basics of block-based programming to control robots, solve maze challenges, and build custom interactive projects. They'll discover how coding works in the real world by using loops, conditionals, and functions to bring their ideas to life. Throughout the course, students will practice problem-solving, teamwork, and design thinking while building projects that combine creativity with technology.
7th and 8th Grade - Chemical and Materials is designed to have students explore basic principles of chemistry and materials science, including atomic structure, chemical reactions, and properties of materials. The program will showcase real-world applications of chemical and materials engineering, highlighting their importance in industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, and environmental sustainability. Students will engage in laboratory experiments to observe chemical reactions, analyze material properties, and understand engineering processes.
- Dates: Saturdays, March 28th - May 2nd
- Time: 9:00am - 12:00pm
- No classes will be held on April 4th for the Easter holiday
Program Costs: $399 per student (includes all academic materials)
Registration Deadline: Thursday, March 12, 2026

SMS High School Sessions
On campus every Saturday, January 9 - February 6, 2026 from 9 am to 12 pm.
High School Arduino Engineering: Circuits, Code & Smart Devices answers how everyday electronics sense their environment, make decisions, and take action. In this hands-on experience, high school students step into the shoes of an engineer to master electricity fundamentals, circuit design, and Arduino programming. You will learn to construct circuits, read sensors, and debug code—culminating in a capstone project where you design and present your own original "smart device" prototype to solve a real-world problem.
Program Costs: $399 per student (includes all academic materials)
Registration deadline: December 7, 2026
Payment Deadline: December 14, 2026
High School Assistive Robotics immerses students into the fields of robotics and brain-computer interface (BCI) technology using the new NeuroMaker 2.0! Participants will learn about the principles of assistive technology, followed by hands-on activities in building a robotic hand and exploring BCI headbands. By combining theoretical understanding with practical application, students leave with a deep appreciation for the potential of assistive robotics and BCIs in enhancing accessibility and communication for individuals with diverse needs.
