Green Teams

In the spring of 2026, the Office of Sustainability launched its landmark peer-to-peer educational network, the Green Teams, for NJIT's staff and faculty to strengthen their community and commitment to sustainable practices. After the success of their residence hall peer-to-peer EcoHighlander program, this was a fitting next step to expand sustainability-focused action to all buildings on campus. 

The goal of the Green Teams network is to incentivize and showcase specialized efforts to reduce the carbon emissions within each department and office of NJIT. Green Team representatives are equipped with resources such as the Green Office and Green Event guides as well as support from the Office of Sustainability in order for them to apply to their respective working environments. Through this, each Green Team generously donates their time, effort, and passion to solving unsustainable problems, increasing recycling, lowering waste, reducing unnecessary consumption, reducing energy usage, and more in their department buildings. Together, we can build a more sustainable campus for all. 

The NJIT Green Teams is open to all departments and offices on campus and currently consists of 12 departments including:

• Health and Wellness
• Residence Life
• Library Services
• Civil and Environmental Engineering
• Office of the Dean of Students
• Jordan Hu College of Science and Liberal Arts
• Environmental Health Services
• Chemistry
• Humanities and Social Sciences
