Our Mission
The mission of sustainability initiatives at NJIT is to help guide our community become more sustainable and drive pathway towards carbon neutrality. These initiatives are developed in order to create a culture of faculty, staff and students who are socially, economically and environmentally responsible.
Our Vision
We strive to integrate sustainability into the core mission of the university through teaching, research, service. We are committed to projects that make efficient use of our resources in order to create a more sustainable campus and community.
Who We Are

Prabhakar Shrestha Dr. Shrestha joined NJIT as the Assistant Director of Sustainability in February 2022. Dr. Shrestha is leading NJIT's effort to be carbon neutral while also ensuring that sustainability is a norm at the university. He is responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of sustainability programs and policies at NJIT. In his free time, Dr. Shrestha enjoys spending time with his family exploring NJ and the tri-state area. He is an avid pickleball player. |

Audrey Kormann Audrey is a third-year honors student majoring in Chemical Engineering. As a Sustainability Specialist Intern with NJIT’s Office of Sustainability, she leads student engagement initiatives that build a culture of environmental awareness and action across campus. Audrey also serves as Vice President of NJIT Green, the university’s largest student-led environmental organization, and interns with Merck’s Global Safety and Environment division, applying her engineering background to advance sustainable practices in the pharmaceutical industry. Outside of sustainability work, she plays Division I basketball for NJIT’s women’s team. |

Julia Navarro Julia is a junior honors undergraduate majoring in Human Computer Interaction with a minor in Environment and Sustainability Studies. She is the Office of Sustainability’s graphic designer, social media, event manager, and data collector for the engagement section of STARS. Julia is also President of NJITGreen and the Graphic Designer at NJIT IGDA. She works on campus environmental initiatives with a specific focus on biodiversity or environmental justice, and her goal is to use art and technology to help the environment as well as communities disproportionately affected by climate change. Outside of the Office she is also a research assistant at the Urban Ecology Lab. She likes rock music, drawing, and winning in Mario Kart 8. |

Fariha Mohiuddin Fariha is a sophomore undergraduate majoring in Biology with a focus on pre-med. As a member of the Office of Sustainability she works toward making NJIT a more sustainable campus and promoting environmental responsibility among the student body. She can be found exploring and reporting on NJIT's sustainable research and academic courses to be submitted in the upcoming STARS report. Fariha is also an Environmental Justice Leader for NJIT Green and writes articles to spread awareness on environmental issues in overburdened communities. In her free time, she likes to travel and see cool natural landmarks. |

Abhinav Kokkula Abhinav is a sophomore undergraduate majoring in Financial Technology with a minor in Applied Mathematics. His passion for sustainability stems from various high school internships and trips, such as his work for his town's Green Team and a sustainability-focused study abroad journey to Denmark. At NJIT, he spent his first year planning and advocating for the sustainable reuse of on-campus move-out waste. Now, his work for the Office of Sustainability involves collecting Operations data from multiple NJIT departments to aid the university in it's goal to achieve STARS Gold status and helping promote various OS initiatives. |
