What are the additional FlexPath benefits for students admitted to YWCC MS degree programs?

  • Students admitted to any of the Ying Wu College of Computing’s eight MS degree programs listed above can begin full- or part-time study online during the Fall 2020 semester.  Students successfully completing a prescribed set of four courses (12 graduate credits) will earn an independent Graduate Certificate and the credits earned will also be applied toward their MS degree program of admission.
  • This graduate certificate option for FlexPath admission is also very useful for any student whose  letter of acceptance indicated as a condition of admission, completion of up to four “Must take” bridge courses.  This is normally the case for students with a non-Computing background. The bridge program courses are typically completed prior to the actual MS degree studies to prepare a student lacking all the required background.  However, successful completion of the four prescribed courses completing the Graduate Certificate will waive the bridge requirement condition of admission, which is a net gain for the student.
  • Graduate students choosing the FlexPath option for Fall 2020 receive a one-time scholarship equivalent to about $500 per credit enrolled.  So students choosing to begin full-time online study this fall who enroll in four graduate courses can save approximately $6,000 in tuition costs, earn a career-enhancing Graduate Certificate, waive any bridge courses that were a condition of admission, and be well of their way to completion of their MS degree.
  • Upon successful completion of the Fall 2020 “online” semester, students will be able to continue studies in-person at NJIT in the Spring 2021 semester (assuming a valid F-1 visa is in place prior to the start of the Spring 2021 semester).

I was accepted into a Graduate Certificate program.  What options are available for me?

  • FlexPath allows students admitted to Graduate Certificate programs and unable to arrive on campus by September 1, the option to begin full- or part-time study online during the Fall 2020 semester.  Graduate certificate admitted students choosing the FlexPath option to study online this fall will receive a one-time scholarship equivalent to about $500 per credit enrolled.  So if you choose to begin full-time study online this fall, enrolling in four graduate courses, you can save approximately $6,000 in tuition costs and fully complete the requirements for your Graduate Certificate of admission.  Students who have been guaranteed admission to an MS degree program upon successful completion of a graduate certificate program with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher can then continue their MS degree studies in person at NJIT in Spring 2021 (assuming they receive a valid F-1 visa prior to the start of the Spring 2021 semester).

I was accepted to the MS in Bioinformatics. What FlexPath options are available for me?

  • Although there is no corresponding Graduate Certificate for the MS in Bioinformatics, a number of the core and elective courses for the degree program will be available online in Fall 2020.  Students admitted to the MS in Bioinformatics degree program may begin their studies online and take advantage of the Fall 2020 FlexPath scholarship.  Upon successful completion of the “online semester”, students continue in-person at NJIT in Spring 2021 (assuming a valid F-1 visa is in place). For further information, speak with an academic advisor.
