Provides current and future Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) professionals with the training, technical assistance and educational resources needed to develop their knowledge, skills, and abilities to build technical proficiency in ITS.
This certificate program provides the current and future ITS workforce with flexible, accessible ITS learning through training, technical assistance, and educational resources. The program will assist graduate students, educators, and transportation professionals in developing their knowledge, skills, and abilities to build technical proficiency for ITS.
What You Will Learn:
Students in the Intelligent Transportation Systems Graduate Certificate Program will learn a wide range of leadership and management skills in addition to the following skills:
- Its fundamentals (national/regional architectures, designing process, technological and operational issues, and more).
- Traffic studies and capacity (elementary probability and statistics, traffic stream characteristics, traffic flow relationships and more).
- Advanced transportation modeling (Macroscopic, Mesoscopic and Microscopic tools).
- Geographic information system (data structures and basic functions, data sources and capture method, and spatial data and objects).
- Database fundamentals, using the Structured Query Language (SQL).
- Data management system design (database design, conceptual modeling, storage, concurrency control and recovery).

- Construction cost estimating (computerized takeoff and estimating techniques, financial and cost reporting, indices, profit factors and more).
- Project implementation and progress control.

Program Details
Our program educational objectives are reflected in the achievements of our recent alumni.
- Research and/or Practice: Alumni will successfully engage in the research and/or practice of civil engineering within academia, industry, government, and private practice, working toward sustainable solutions in a technical specialty area including construction, environmental, geotechnical, structural, transportation, and water resources. Alumni will be able to synthesize technical knowledge of engineering analysis, and design to identify, formulate and solve problems of professional interest and importance.
- Professional Growth: Alumni will advance their skills through research, innovation, professional growth and development activities such as research in civil engineering.
- Service: Alumni will perform service to society and the engineering profession through membership and participation in professional societies, government, educational institutions, civic organizations, and humanitarian endeavors.
What You Will Learn:
Graduates of Ph.D. in Civil Engineering program will be able to:
- Evaluate the effectiveness of a designed experiment and the implications of the resulting data;
- Verify and justify the solution to a complex civil engineering problem, including the use of appropriate tools and techniques;
- Develop and evaluate new, advanced technical knowledge in a specialized area of civil engineering; and
- Synthesize and explain the relevance and application of new, advanced technical knowledge in both technical and non-technical terms.
