Title VII: Equal Employment Opportunity

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation, and gender identity), or national origin. It also protects individuals from retaliation for filing a complaint or participating in an investigation.

At NJIT, Title VII protections apply to all aspects of employment, including:

  • Recruitment, hiring, and promotion
  • Compensation and benefits
  • Work assignments and conditions
  • Training, professional development, and evaluation

NJ Law Against Discrimination

Prohibits discrimination and bias-based harassment based on actual or perceived:

  • Race or color;
  • Religion or creed;
  • National origin, nationality, or ancestry;
  • Sex, pregnancy, or breastfeeding;
  • Sexual orientation;
  • Gender identity or expression;
  • Disability;
  • Marital status or domestic partnership/civil union status;
  • Veteran Status;
  • Age;
  • Atypical hereditary cellular or blood trait, genetic information, the refusal to submit to a genetic test or make available to an employer the results of a genetic test.
