Student Compliance Guidelines
With the ongoing pandemic happening across the world and within our nation, the health, wellbeing and safety of our students, staff and faculty at NJIT is paramount. We are prepared to welcome our students back but in order to do that effectively, we will be adhering to strict guidelines as stated by Governor Murphy of New Jersey in an executive order to our community. As a community member of NJIT, we have a responsibility to protect the health and safety of all members by behaving in a manner that reflects and embodies our core values of integrity, civility and social responsibility.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has indicated that COVID-19 is thought to spread mainly through close contact from person-to-person (within about 6 feet). It further confirms that through respiratory droplets produced, if and when an infected person coughs, sneezes, laughs or talks, these droplets can land in the mouths or noses or eyes of people who are nearby and then possibly infect the respiratory cells.
The most important measures to limit the spread of the virus are maintaining physical/social distance of six feet or more at all times and by wearing face masks. See CDC use of masks
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html
All students should take very seriously the responsibility of preventing and limiting the spread of COVID-19, and abide by the directives given by the President and the other constituencies such as the Office of the Dean of Students.
To this end, the following guidelines have been put in place for instructional spaces and it is extremely important that these guidelines are followed at all times:
Face Masks - “Your mask may protect them. Their mask may protect you”
Classroom Instruction
Social Gatherings
The Office of the Dean of Students with oversight over Student Conduct and Academic Integrity hopes that there will be absolute compliance from our student community regarding the guidelines for limiting the spread of COVID-19. However, should students not observe or adhere to the new behavioral guidelines stipulated, once it is reported as a violation of the Rules and Regulations Requirement as is outlined in the Student Code of Conduct, the violators will be adjudicated accordingly.
