After You Deposit, What’s Next?
Pay Your Tuition Bill
All invoices are available to you via your Highlander Pipeline account and statements are sent via email to your NJIT email address. Tuition payment for the fall 2018 semester is due on Wednesday, August 29. Information about payment options can be found at njit.edu/bursar.
Attending the First Day of Classes
The semester begins on Tuesday, September 4. If you are living on-campus, you will receive information about room assignments and move-in day from the Office of Residence Life during the summer.
As an international student, you must apply for a visa to come to NJIT. Here are your next steps:
Pay Your SEVIS Fee
Go to www.fmjfee.com to pay the required USD 200 SEVIS fee (Form I-901 Fee). You can make the payment by credit card (online) or by check or money order (you will need to mail your payment). You will need to show the receipt to the consular officer at the time of your interview. You will have to provide your SEVIS number when you pay the fee; your number can be found on your I-20 (top left-hand corner and it starts with the letter “N”) or DS-2019 (on top of the barcode on the right-hand corner and it starts with the letter “N”).
Schedule an Appointment for Your VISA Interview
Contact the nearest American embassy or consulate to apply for your F-1 or J-1 visa. See enclosed information regarding the documentation you need to bring for your interview. Note that the list of required documents varies from country to country; check the website of the nearest United States embassy or consulate for more detailed information.
Prepare for Your VISA Interview
You should be ready to explain why you chose NJIT, what your objectives and goals are and what you plan to do after you earn your degree. Your interview will be conducted in English. See the enclosed handout for additional tips on how to prepare for your interview.
Contact EDUCATIONUSA for Additional Support
If you would like to get additional support to help you prepare for your visa interview, contact the nearest EducationUSA office and schedule an appointment with a counselor. A list of offices can be found at educationusa.info. EducationUSA offices provide FREE OF CHARGE services to students planning to study in the United States.
Attend the International Student Orientation
We highly recommend that you check our website, njit.edu/global. It has important information for admitted students, such as pre-arrival information, international student orientation dates and airport pick-up request form, among other items. Orientation takes place in late August. Please check njit.edu/global for specific orientation dates and plan accordingly for your arrival.
Your To-Do List
Confirm Your Enrollment
Confirm your intent to enroll at NJIT with a $250 tuition deposit by June 1. You can submit the deposit online at tuitiondeposit.njit.edu.
Access Highlander Pipeline:
- Create Your UCID. Go to njit.edu/ucidaccount
- Access your Highlander Pipeline Account. Go to my.njit.edu. This is your campus portal for viewing financial aid, course registration and other important services.
- Set Up Your NJIT Email Account. Your NJIT email address will be the official method of communication for all correspondence from the university.
Meet with Your Academic Advisor
Meet with your academic advisor to review your degree requirements, receive help with course selection and registration for the upcoming semester. Go to njit.edu/graduateadvisors to obtain contact information for your advisor.
International students will meet with academic advisors during the International Student Orientation.
Register for Classes
Registration for the fall semester begins on Monday, April 2. Go to njit.edu/schedules to access the schedule of available courses. You may register for classes via your Highlander Pipeline account.
International students will register for classes during the International Student Orientation.
Submit Your Official Transcripts
If you have not already done so, please submit your final official transcripts as proof of completion of a bachelor’s degree to the Office of University Admissions.
File the FAFSA
If you have not done so already, submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1. Be sure to list NJIT’s federal school code (002621). International students are not eligible. Start your FAFSA at fafsa.gov.
Submit Health Information
Complete the required Student Health Packet at njit.edu/healthpacket. All documents must be submitted to the Office of Health Services no later than August 1.
Submit Health Insurance Waiver
All students are required to have health insurance. Domestic students that are already insured may be permitted to waive NJIT’s Health Insurance.
All international students must purchase NJIT Health Insurance. Information is available at njit.edu/healthinsurance.
Get your NJIT Photo ID
After you have registered for courses, reach out to the Security Systems, Photo Identification and Parking Services Department in the Laurel Hall Extension (131 Summit Street) to get a Photo ID. For more information, visit njit.edu/parking.
Get a Parking Permit
If you plan to park on campus, complete the Student Parking Registration form at njit.edu/parking.
