Academic Essentials                                                    

Course Placement   

Upon deposit, all first year students will need to take the Math placement test starting in March. You will then be placed in GUR (General University Requirement) courses based on SAT/ACT scores, high school academic performance, your math placement test score, and curriculum requirements for specific majors. 

Advanced Placement (AP) Course Credits

Make sure you have selected NJIT to receive all of your Advanced Placement Scores including any tests taken prior to your senior year. College level courses taken during high school requires submission of an official transcript.

Change of Major

If you were admitted to NJIT with a major you no longer wish to pursue, you must email by August 1 to have your request considered.

Purchase or Rent Textbooks in Advance

Students can order their textbooks online from our bookstore and have the books wrapped and ready for pick-up in the fall at

New Student Orientation

Attend New Student Orientation

After taking your placement test or placement test exemption, you will be invited by email to New Student Orientation (NSO). NSO is a required interactive orientation program. During the program, you will meet current NJIT students, faculty and staff and explore the academic and social skills necessary to be successful at NJIT. For further information, click here.

Family Orientation

Parents and Guardians are invited to attend Family Orientation

Family Orientations are scheduled on the same days as Freshman Orientation. Family Orientation is designed to educate parents and guardians on how to support your son/daughter during their study at NJIT. More information on the parent program can be found here.

NJIT Parent Portal

An online tool for parents authorized by your student to view financial information and enter transactions on behalf of your son/daughter. This includes bursar office communications such as students schedule and bills will be sent through email to those authorized by the student. For further information please go to

Health Services

Complete Immunization and Physical Examination Requirements

All students must comply with state and NJIT requirements prior to the beginning of the academic year. 

Provide Proof of Health Insurance
