"The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership" was developed by James Kouzes and Barry Z. Posner in 1983 by asking people "What do you do as a leader when you're performing at your personal best?" Kouzes and Posner identified five practices as a result of their research:
1. Model the Way:finding your voice and affirming your shared values; act how you encourage others act.
2. Inspire a Shared Vision: developing a vision in which everyone at an organization believes in and works toward the goals as a unit.
3. Challenge the Process:encouraging you to step outside your comfort zone by experimenting, exploring, and taking risks to create change or improvements in an organization or community.
4. Enable Others to Act:creating an environment conducive for collaboration and strengthening of others' skills through empowerment, teamwork, and trustworthiness.
5. Encourage the Heart: the most uncommonly seen in leadership roles that focuses on sincerity devoted to recognizing contributions and celebrating values and victories by offering encouragement and maintaining a positive outlook.
