Programs and Services
The Office for Student Involvement and Leadership hosts a variety of yearly events and traditions.
Campus Traditions and Events

At the start of each semester, OSIL hosts Welcome Weeks, which includes the Student Involvement Fairs where students can come meet other students from all of the student organizations of NJIT. We also offer several fun events during the first week to help new students meet each other and returning students reconnect with the NJIT community. Some of these events have included Pancakes with the President, Involvement Fair, Commuter BBQ, and more!
Homecoming takes place in October each year. During Homecoming, the NJIT community celebrates everything NJIT with hundreds of students, families, faculty, staff, and alumni in attendance for a variety of athletic, academic, and social events.
For more information, visit the Homecoming Website to view the most recent schedule.

Annually each February, departments from all over campus host a multitude of events, giveaways, and raffles to show our appreciation for NJIT's amazing student body.
We celebrate Constitution Day on or near September 17 to give students an opportunity to discuss the history and the current political climate. Events vary from year to year.
Leadership Development

Join us for LEADS, a dynamic, full-day leadership conference hosted by OSIL dedicated to developing student leadership skills. Designed to train student organization leaders, this immersive event features engaging guest speakers presenting new concepts and challenges to inspire your growth. It’s an excellent opportunity to expand your network, connecting with peers, speakers, and alumni, all while enjoying provided food. Fully participating in the entire day allows you to earn an official digital badge recognizing your commitment to leadership development.
Every semester, OSIL provides valuable student leadership workshops that offer key opportunities for growth across your roles as a leader, student, and community member. As you successfully complete these courses, you will earn digital badges—a verifiable way to highlight your achievements and demonstrate proficiency in crucial hard and and soft skills.
Each spring, the Office for Student Involvement and Leadership (OSIL) proudly hosts the Highlander Awards, a premier ceremony dedicated to formally recognizing excellence within the NJIT community. This vital event celebrates the outstanding commitment and impactful contributions of students, student organizations, and faculty/staff whose efforts have significantly enriched campus life. The Highlander Awards shine a light on those who embody the best of leadership, service, and community engagement throughout the academic year.
Fraternity and Sorority Events

During National Hazing Prevention Week, OSIL works with the fraternities and sororities to promote a campaign called "These Hands Don't Haze" and brings a noteable speaker to campus to educate students about contributing positively to our community.
National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week (NCAAW) is an annual, nationwide campaign held in the third full week of October dedicated to promoting responsible decision-making and raising awareness about the risks associated with alcohol abuse on college campuses. The week features educational programs, events, and initiatives focused on themes like harm reduction, impaired driving prevention, bystander intervention, and making safe, informed choices regarding alcohol consumption.
Greek Week is NJIT's exciting, annual celebration that unites the entire Fraternity and Sorority Life community through a week of spirited competition, philanthropy, and tradition.
