NJIT Administrative Center - General Information
The NJIT Administrative Center is located at 494 Broad Street, Newark, NJ 07102.
Our offices are on the 9th & 10th Floors. The lobby opens at 7 AM and closes at 8 PM Monday through Friday. During off hours, NJIT has a card reader on the Welcome Parking garage doors to allow access to the building and garage (see the image below). We are exploring the possibility of adding an NJIT reader to the Broad Street lobby or auxiliary doors with Building Management.
NJIT has 300 dedicated parking spaces on the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th floors.
The NJIT Administrative Center is like any other campus building. Mail, including overnight packages, should be directed to:
Addressee’s Name
NJIT ADMINISTRATIVE CENTER - ROOM #
NEW JERSEY INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
323 DR MARTIN LUTHER KING JR BLVD
NEWARK NJ 07102-1824
The mailroom will make deliveries to designated administrative staff for each department as needed. You will receive email notifications of package deliveries. They will either be brought to you during the regular mail delivery or picked up at the mailroom.
Walking
The Administrative Center is approximately 10-15 minutes from the NJIT campus on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. For the most direct path across Broad Street, use the crosswalk at the signalized intersection of Orange and Broad Streets (in front of the Audible building).
Driving
When using GPS, it is recommended that you use Welcome Parking, 570 Atlantic Street, Newark, NJ 07102, as the address to access the parking garage. NJIT has 300 dedicated parking spaces on the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th floors. NJIT employees can use their identification cards to “tap” and enter the garage entrance (see photo below). Once you reach the 5th floor, you again tap to enter our dedicated parking area. Please drive slowly in the parking garage and obey the recommended speed limit for your safety and the safety of others.
Non-NJIT visitors should be told to use Welcome Parking, 570 Atlantic Street, Newark, NJ 07102 as the address of the parking deck for the Administrative Center. At the 1st level entrance gate they should take a parking ticket from the machine, and are then allowed to park on any level. To gain access to the 9th and 10th floors for meetings they should go to the 5th floor and use the intercom (or call their host directly) and will need to be escorted up to the 9th or 10th floors.
There is a parking ticket validator located on the 10th floor at the first cubicle across from Suzanne Cascone’s desk (alcove 1026). The validator will remain in this location and will have posted instructions next to it outlining how to validate your guests parking ticket(s). They will need their tickets validated to exit the parking deck without having to pay.
This new process will allow personnel to validate guest parking tickets independently, rather than needing to locate a member of University Operations for assistance.
Non-NJIT-affiliated visitors will be responsible for paying for parking via the kiosks within the garage.
Rail
The NJIT Administrative Center is conveniently located adjacent to the NJ Transit Light Rail System and is a short walk from Broad Street Station. The NJIT Administrative Center is conveniently located on the Rutgers-NJIT Campus Connect Shuttle Bus route. The shuttle stops at the Washington Street Harriet Tubman Square bus stop directly across from the James and Washington Street intersection. The route and times for the Campus Connect shuttle can be found using the PassioGo app.
The NJIT Administrative Center has convenient kitchenettes with microwave ovens, refrigerators, and water dispensers. On the 9th floor, a cafeteria has plentiful tables and chairs for dining with friends and colleagues. Snack and drink vending machines are located in this area for your convenience.

Water Fountain
There are water fountains, bottle filling stations, and water coolers/heaters at the Administrative Center. The water coolers/heaters can be found in some of the kitchenettes. They provide filtered hot, tepid, and cold water.
Electric vehicle charging stations will be installed within the dedicated NJIT parking spaces. We will have three combined charging stations and three North American Charging stations (a.k.a. Tesla charging stations). The chargers are active and available on the 8th floor of the garage. An EV owner’s group has been established for the Administrative Center. Those who wish to participate can sign up through this Google Form or the QR code posted in various locations throughout the Administrative Center.
All groups will share conference rooms at the NJIT Administrative Center, and the scheduling will be centralized. Below are the procedures for booking meeting rooms in the Administration Center using the new "Neat Pad" room scheduling system.
How to Use
The new Neat Pad panels mounted outside Admin Center conference rooms display real-time room availability and allow staff to book rooms from Google Calendar or directly at the door. These panels are connected to Zoom and Google Calendar Room Resources.
Important: These new room resource calendars in Google Calendar should replace any manually created room calendars.
Note: The scheduling panels can only be used for same-day bookings. For future-dated meetings, please use Google Calendar and select the room in the Room field. Those reservations will then appear on the Neat Pads.
1. What You Will See on the Neat Pad
- Each Neat Pad shows:
- Room name
- Current meeting (if any)
- Upcoming meetings for the day
- Room status:
Green – Available
Red – In Use / Reserved
2. Booking a Room at the Door
- Walk up to the Neat Pad outside the room.
- If the room is available, tap “Book Room”.
- Select the meeting length (e.g., 15, 30, 60 minutes).
- Tap Confirm.
The room is immediately reserved and appears on the panel.
3. Scheduling a Room from Google Calendar (Preferred Method)
These new calendars use Google’s official Room Resources feature.
- Create a new event in Google Calendar.
- In the Location field, click Rooms; start typing the room name (e.g., “AC-919”).
- Select the room from the list.
- Send the invite.

Click Yes or No on the room resource calendar event.
Yes = Requester receives a green check.
No = Requester receives a red X.For now, only Admin Center rooms and two GITC rooms (including GITC 5407) appear in the room list. More rooms will be added soon.
4. One-Touch Meeting Start / Join
If meeting in a Zoom Room, invite the room and schedule a Zoom in Google Calendar to to automatically:
- Display the meeting on the Neat Pad.
- Allow one-touch Start / Join of the Zoom meeting from inside the room (a meeting password is required).
REQUESTING CONFERENCE ROOM SETUP
To improve efficiency and ensure our shared meeting spaces are well-maintained and ready for use, we are clarifying the procedures for requesting setup assistance. They are as follows:
Self Service:
For small meetings that require a light setup, please prepare the space yourself. This helps our Facilities team to prioritize larger and more complex event preparations.
Self-Service is appropriate for tasks such as:
- Arranging chairs for a small group
- Wiping down a table and disposing of trash before or after your meeting
- Connecting a laptop to the existing A/V equipment
- Returning the room to its original layout after your meeting concludes
SchoolDude Maintenance Request:
For more extensive setup needs, a formal work request is required. Please submit your request through SchoolDude at least 72 business hours in advance to guarantee the room will be prepared to your specifications. Please be as detailed as possible in your request to ensure the Facilities team can properly prepare.
A formal request is necessary for:
- Large groups requiring complete room reconfiguration (i.e., changing from boardroom style to classroom, or retreat style)
- Setups requiring additional tables, chairs, podiums, or easels that are not already in the room
- Taping down power cords, wires to ensure safety
You can access the work request system here: https://www.njit.edu/maintenance/
There is no expectation of making any adjustments in office hours. Contact details will remain the same, as the phone extension will automatically populate at the new office location.
NJIT police will patrol the area of 494 Broad Street to help ensure the safety and well-being of our students, employees, and visitors to the new facility. When dialing 9-1-1 for an emergency, say “I am at NJIT” so the operator routes your call to the NJIT Police. You can then explain to the dispatcher that you are located at the 494 Broad Street NJIT facility and the issue.
Employees will still have access to the NJIT facilities on the main campus, and this new facility will be an extension of our campus. The new facility has a cafeteria area where individuals can bring their food. The building is located in the heart of downtown Newark, with existing food options nearby. Planet Fitness is located a few buildings to the south.
A contracted vendor will clean the NJIT office space, and Campus Planning, Construction, and Real Estate will coordinate the building maintenance. The NJIT Maintenance Request System will enable the new space to be selected as the location, allowing requests to be entered in the same way they are now.
At the Administrative Center, there are currently three main Wi-Fi networks.
- Highlander: Main Option, for Staff, Faculty, and Students.
- HighlanderGuest: Network for guesses or alumni.
- Highlander_WPA3: for the highest security network traffic
The card access system is an extension of the system on campus. You will need to tap in twice for parking, access to the NJIT elevators, and again on the floor. Some offices, like HR, Legal Affairs, Payroll, and Government Affairs, have card access to their respective suites on the 9th floor.
There are thermostats in shared and private spaces that allow for up to 4 degrees of temperature change from the building setpoint (2 degrees up and down). These can be adjusted as needed.
The lower level of the Fenster Hall parking garage has 10 parking spaces (#33 thru #42) designated for “transient parking.” These spaces are clearly identified with unique line striping and signage. All employees who are based at the Administrative Center have tap access to this lot in order to use these 10 spaces on a transient basis only. These parking spaces are NOT intended for people to use all day long. If you are on campus all day, please use regular parking spaces in the parking garages on Summit or Wilsey streets. The remaining parking spaces in the Fenster Hall lower level remain reserved per the Fenster Hall Parking Policy.
We encourage those who need to travel back and forth to campus to use the Rutgers/NJIT Campus Connect Shuttle, which stops at Harriet Tubman Square, directly across from the Audible Innovation Cathedral. Bus times and real-time tracking can be found using the app noted below:
Transitioning to Broad Street - Frequently Asked Questions

While a permanent space is being identified, HR will be open 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday in Fenster Hall Suite 500. HR’s on campus team will be able to answer common HR questions and help you connect with the HR team member best able to address your needs.
- In-Person Visits to the Administrative Center: Beginning March 24th, we will be able to meet with members of the NJIT community at our new office location. Details on directions, parking details, etc. will be located on our website. The HR team will not have a receptionist stationed at the Administrative Center, so please call or email us in advance so that you can be let into the HR suite.
Administrative offices that do not have regular student interactions are being relocated off-campus to increase space opportunities for student learning and success.
Leasing space offers a financially prudent and low-risk approach to establishing on-campus teaching and learning facilities, thereby mitigating the immediate necessity to construct new facilities.
Creating an NJIT presence in downtown Newark will promote a sense of unity within the community, which is in alignment with the 2030 Strategic Plan.
Relating to an office a few blocks from the main campus will certainly require adjusting how we conduct work. However, like many campuses around the state and country, this new facility will require planning to schedule meetings and transition from one facility to the other via bus, car, or walking. Additionally, the need to be physically present has diminished with hybrid and virtual meetings.
