Step Two: How to Join

Your guide to the recruitment process for all of our organizations.

For Future Members

IFC coordinates the recruitment process for the 14 North-American Interfraternity Conference and other national fraternities. There is no fee to register, but registration is mandatory. Registration link below.

Important Dates:

September 1st - September 25th
  • September 2nd: Involvement Fair
  • September 8th-10th: Welcome Week Events
    • September 8th: FSL Open House
    • September 9th: IFC Field & Smoothie Day
    • September 10th: IFC Casino Night
  • September 25th: Bids (invitations to join) start to be handed out

IFC leaders and advisors will be available throughout the entire process for coaching and general guidance. If a student receives a bid and wishes to continue to visit other chapters, it is OK to inform the chapter issuing the bid that he wants to visit other chapters before making a final decision. If a student accepts a bid but still has other invitations from other chapters, the student must notify the other chapters that he will not be attending. 

To accept a bid, you usually just say "I'd like to accept my bid". It's that easy! There are no financial requirements for registration/recruitment and no obligation to accept an invitation to membership of a chapter. So, what are you waiting for? Find Your People!

Panhellenic Sorority Recruitment

Joining a Panhellenic sorority at NJIT is an opportunity to build lifelong friendships, develop leadership skills, engage in community service, and become part of a supportive community.

The College Panhellenic Council (CPH) does not host a structured primary recruitment process. Instead, Panhellenic chapters recruit new members through an informal recruitment process throughout the academic year.

Students interested in joining a Panhellenic sorority are encouraged to complete the interest form below. Once submitted, your information will be shared with participating chapters, and chapter members may contact you with information about upcoming recruitment events and membership opportunities.

Participating in the recruitment process does not obligate you to join a chapter. We encourage you to attend events, meet members from each organization, and determine which chapter is the best fit for you.

Recruitment Timeline

Recruitment activities typically begin during the first few weeks of the fall and spring semesters. Individual chapters determine their own recruitment schedules and events, so opportunities may vary throughout the year.

Membership Opportunities

Panhellenic sororities may extend membership invitations as they have available opportunities in accordance with National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) guidelines and chapter membership needs.

Students are encouraged to explore each chapter, attend recruitment events when invited, and connect with members to learn more about each organization's values, sisterhood, leadership opportunities, and philanthropic initiatives.

CGC Membership Overview

The Cultural Greek Council (CGC) is comprised of culturally based fraternities and sororities representing multicultural, South-Asian, and Latinx backgrounds. The CGC promotes unity, cultural awareness, and community service. All students, regardless of background, religion, or creed, are welcome to explore CGC and NPHC membership. The CGC also houses our NPHC organizations also known as the “Divine Nine” or D9, is composed of nine historically African-American fraternities and sororities, these organizations are also open to all students regardless of background, religion, or creed.

Membership Intake (Recruitment)

Commonly referred to as “Intake,” the membership process for both NPHC and CGC occurs at various times throughout the academic year and is managed individually by each fraternity or sorority. Some organizations require one or two years of enrollment at the host institution prior to participating in Intake. Students interested in joining any of our culturally based organizations are strongly encouraged to attend CGC Showcase, hosted in both Fall and Spring semesters, providing a chance to meet members from all CGC organizations. Students who are interested should also attend various chapter events and tabling throughout the year to learn more information about their Intake processes.
 
Tips for Showing Interest in NPHC and CGC Organizations:
  • Attend chapter programs and events.
  • Attend interest meetings for organizations you're curious about.
  • Build relationships with current members of the chapters you're interested in.
  • Research the organization’s history, values, and initiatives online and through social media.
  • Get involved in other campus organizations to demonstrate your commitment to service and leadership.

The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life also recognizes some of our special interest fraternities. These organizations are coed service and professional organizations.

Joining processes for these organizations vary, but they typically involve attending informational nights or service events, completing an application or participating in a brief interview, and in some cases, meeting academic or major-specific requirements. These organizations are a great fit for students seeking both a strong sense of community and opportunities for career development.
