Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
A civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in many areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and public and private places that are open to the general public.
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
A federal law designed to protect the rights of individuals with disabilities in programs and activities that receive federal funding.
"No otherwise qualified individual with a disability in the United States . . . shall, solely by reason of her or his disability, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance . . . ."
Requesting Accommodations
NJIT students, employees and visitors should contact the Office of Accessibility Resources and Services (OARS) at oars@njit.edu or visit the OARS website. Examples of reasonable accommodations and support services could include, but are not limited to: adaptive equipment, alternative format materials, assistive listening devices, emotional support animals (ESAs), note-taking, real time captioning, sign language interpreters, and testing accomdations.
