  3. How can I connect and network with people?
    1. Professional Opportunities - Career Fairs (both in the fall & spring semesters) hosted by Career Development Services

    2. Extracurriculars - Students can join any student-run club or organization. There is a variety of 150+ organizations to take part in.

  4. Do I have to purchase a meal plan as a commuter?
    1. Meal plans for commuters are optional
    2. While it is not required for commuters to have a meal plan, they can purchase one here for 5 meals per week which can be used at any NJIT Dining locations
  5. Where can I park on campus?
    1. There are two parking decks available for students to park in throughout the year. Here is a campus parking map to view.
    2. Make sure to either hang your parking decal or pay for daily parking to avoid any tickets or citations.
  6. Are students excused for religious observances?
    1. Yes, students can be excused for religious observances, even though the university does not cancel classes for non-federally recognized religious holidays. Students MUST always notify their instructors in writing about any conflicts between course requirements and religious observances in as much advance notice and time as possible.
    2. Ideally, this notification should be submitted by the end of the second week of class, but no later than two weeks before the anticipated absence.
  7. Where should I go if I am feeling sick or under the weather?
    1. NJIT Health Services by CityMD is located first floor of Maple Hall (200 Warren Street, Newark) - On campus options
    2. Off-campus options would include a visit to CityMD Urgent Care at 617 Broad Street, Newark
    3. In case of an emergency or serious medical issues, head to St. Michael's Medical Center or University Hospital both located near campus
  8. Are there any public computers for commuters? Can I print at these locations?
    1. Yes, there are over 500 public computers across 16 computing labs on-campus with a wide range of software, printing options and other unique features.
    2. GITC, Fenster Hall, Student Mall Lab, Honors College Residene Hall & Van Houten Library 
    3. Each lab is accessible with your NJITDM account, and many offer lase printing and specialized software for coursework.
  9. Are there opportunities for me to get involved at NJIT?
    1. NJIT offers more than 140 student-run clubs that span interests like tech, culture, arts, service, religion, careers and more! You can explore them through Highlander Hub.
    2. Welcome Week, Student Involvement Fair, Homecoming, and much much more! The Office for Student Involvement and Leadership plans many programs and campus traditions, plus they can help you get more connected to an area you are interested too!
    3. Become a club officer, join student government (Senate), volunteer or participate in leadership workshops and conferences. NJIT hosts a tradition every May called Highlander Awards to recognize outstanding student leaders.
    4. Explore Fraternity and Sorority Life which has 30 Greek organizations that offer community, service and personal development. 
  10. Are there mental health resources available? 
    1. Yes, Counseling and Psychological Services (C-Caps) is located in Campbell Hall, Room 205. Phone: (973)596-3414 or email counseling@njit.edu 
    2. Offers individual and group counseling, workshops and crisis intervention.
    3. Services are confidential, judgment free, and available in-person or remotely.

  11. Are there microwaves on campus?
    1. Campus Center Dining Hall (near Taco Bell area)
    2. Commuter Lounge(s)

  12. How do I rent a locker?
    1. Renting a locker at NJIT is a simple process designed to make campus life easier for commuters on the go.
      1. Go to Information Desk on 1st Floor of Campus Center
      2. Must have your physical NJIT ID as it is a requirement for registration
      3. Provide your own lock. If you do not have, the NJIT Bookstore sells them too.
      4. Lockers are assigned per semester only and MUST be cleared out at the end of each semester.
      5. Lockers are located in Campus Center Lower Level
  13. Is there public transportation available for NJIT?
    1. NJIT is well connected by public transportation, making it easy for students, faculty, and visitors to get to campus without a car.
    2. Light rail & subway access (Newark Penn Station, Warren Street stop, Newark Light rail, Broad Street Station)
    3. NJ Transit Buses including routes 28, 31, 62, 67 & 107
    4. NJ/Rutgers Shuttle (free shuttle service between NJIT and Rutgers-Newark (MUST have NJIT ID to ride)
    5. AirTrain Newark
  14. Can commuters park on campus overnight?
    1. ​Commuters cannot park overnight be default - overnight is defined as 1:00 AM-5:00 AM, Monday through Friday
    2. Since there are restrictions for commuters, NJIT has also made limited exceptions as well
      1. Resident students, staff, and faculty with valid permits can park overnight in designated areas.
      2. Commuter MUST request an exception by submitting the overnight parking exception form to Campus Center Operations (Room 105) or the Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life (Room 493) explaining the reason
      3. If approved, you'll receive a temporary overnight pass. Decisions are final and typically processed within 72 hours.
