Next week, we welcome our new and returning students to campus as we restart our university community. More than five months ago we were forced to shift instruction, research, and most services to remote operations. Since then, we have been working diligently to bring everyone back to campus safely. A special thanks to those who never left, including our custodial staff and our Public Safety Officers.
Before we welcome you back, I would like to remind each of you about some very important requirements that are put in place not only for your health and safety but for the health and safety of our entire community. We must all do our part to keep our campus COVID-free.
Get tested for COVID-19. Everyone must be tested before the start of the semester.
Be safe and be smart. Consistent with state mandates, wear your mask at all times while on campus except while eating. Maintain social distance and follow the health guidance signs posted around campus. Use the hand sanitizers and cleaning supplies to wipe down high-touch surfaces.
Don’t congregate in large groups. We have limited the number of students who can be in a classroom at any given time and moved furniture in open spaces to ensure social distancing. We know you are excited to see your friends and meet new people, but parties are strictly prohibited. Do your part to keep density down.
Check your symptoms. Use one of our temperature-sensing kiosks stationed around campus. Fill out the health pledge every day. Stay home if you don’t feel well.
For the foreseeable future, this is our “new normal.” As we prepare to learn, work, and live together, we have to adjust to this new way of being together. Although the fall semester may not be a “typical” college experience, we are excited to have you as part of the NJIT family, and we are committed to doing everything we can to give you the best possible experience.
