On May 24, 2021, Governor Murphy signed Executive Order No. 242, which outlined several key steps in New Jersey’s path to normalcy. This included lifting the mandate for social distancing in all higher education facilities as of Friday, May 28 and removing the indoor gathering limits effective Friday, June 4. Therefore, based on this governmental directive and guidance, NJIT will lift the six-foot social distancing mandate on our campus and will begin removing restrictions in restrooms, elevators, classrooms, conference rooms, and other venues. Groups will be able to gather in larger numbers, subject to other restrictions that remain in place.
Indoor Mask Mandate Remains
The Governor’s executive order allows flexibility for employers to continue indoor mask mandates in workplaces. NJIT will continue the requirement to wear masks indoors in all public locations or common areas, regardless of your vaccination status, subject only to exceptions that have previously existed, such as when employees are at separated workstations or private offices or when eating or drinking. We anticipate lifting this mandate on June 28th to coincide with the date that all NJIT faculty and staff must be fully vaccinated. As we reach our 50% return to work milestone on May 31, an additional exception to the mask rule will apply for all participants in small indoor gatherings voluntarily disclosing that they are fully vaccinated per updated CDC guidelines.
Please be reminded that the record of your COVID-19 vaccination must be uploaded to the Medicat system for verification at NJIT.Medicatconnect.com, a secure and HIPAA-compliant system, by following the steps outlined in this April 22 message to the campus community.
Sincerely,
