Placement Test Registration
Congratulations on your acceptance to NJIT! The Office of Placement Testing is excited that you will be joining us!
We are committed to making sure you are placed in the courses that are commensurate to your level of preparation and career goals.
For the Spring 2026, NJIT will implement a hybrid placement assessment policy that integrates standardized test scores with in-person evaluations. Please see the following instructions below to access the registration form that best applies to your situation.

Testing with an approved proctor*. |
Complete the proctor agreement form. Once submitted, the approved proctor will contact you with your test date. If you are unable to obtain a proctor, please contact: placementtesting@njit.edu or call (973)596-8389 to make other arrangements. |
All incoming students must take the English and Math placement assessments unless you are exempt*. In order to obtain access to the placement assessment, you must claim your UCID at least 48 hours prior to date of your assessment if you have not already done so. Note: Please access the registration form using your NJIT email address.
- English Placement Assessment
- English Placement Essay takes approximately 50 minutes
- English Placement Survey takes approximately 20 minutes
- Completion of both sections, Essay & Survey, is essential for appropriate course placement.
- Math Placement Assessment
- Math Placement Assessment is approximately 2 hours and is divided into three sections:
- Basic Algebra (25 problems, 30 minutes), Advance Algebra (25 problems, 30 minutes) and Trigonometry (30 problems, 45 minutes)
- No calculator usage allowed and all sections must be completed for appropriate placement
- Completion of all three (3) sections is essential for appropriate course placement

It is critical that all students taking the placement assessment complete it in one sitting. Please allocate sufficient time to complete all required sections of the placement assessment the same day.
