Exemption

Please see the credit policy for Advance Placement-AP and International Baccalaureate-IB. 

First year students should submit official electronic AP score report and/or IB certificate to NJIT's Admissions Office immediately. Students must have received a grade of C or better in the college/university affiliated course(s) to be eligible for exemption from the math and/or English placement assessments. An official transcript from the college/university must be submitted to the Admissions Office immediately. Please Note:  If you have taken a college course affiliated with NJIT during high school, you may be eligible for exemption.  It is essential that you notify the Placement Testing Office prior to accessing for placement assessments so that your NJIT transcript can be reviewed . High School courses are not considered for exemption from the placement assessment. Therefore, it is not necessary to email the Placement Testing Office  a copy of  your High School transcript.

• English Exemption
  • Students will only be exempt from taking the English placement assessment if they have submitted to NJIT:
    • AP or IB scores for eligible English course  (completed prior to acceptance) - Must have a 4 or above; for policy details click on this link
    • Transcript from a college/university for first-level English course with a grade of C or better (completed prior to acceptance)
• Math Exemption
  • Students will only be exempt from taking the math placement assessment if they have submitted to NJIT:
    • AP or IB scores for eligible Math course (completed prior to acceptance) - for policy details click on this link
    • Transcript from a college/university for Pre-Calculus or Calculus 1 with a grade of C or better (completed prior to acceptance)

​ To receive college credit, send your official AP score report to NJIT through the College Board, using the school code 2513. Please contact the Office of University Admissions for more information or questions regarding your AP/IB or other college/university transfer credit.

If you meet the exemption criteria, you must send notification to placementtesting@njit.edu to confirm eligibility .

Transfer students who were awarded credit at their previous college/university based on their AP and/or IB scores should have an official electronic AP score report and/or IB certificate sent to NJIT's  Office of the Admissions immediately.
