Students with documented disability looking to register for reasonable accommodations and services should follow the required steps. Each student’s requests will be evaluated on an individual basis.

The OARS office goal is to enhance the educational experience for students with disabilities. Our mission is to ensure a comprehensively accessible college experience for all students with disabilities. OARS committed to promoting access and awareness as a resource to all members of the NJIT community. Each student’s requests will be evaluated on an individual basis.

HOW TO REQUEST ACCOMMODATIONS​

  1. Schedule an Appointment with the OARS office:​​​

    • Prospective students via email at OARS@NJIT.EDU
  2. Complete the Google Form Link provided prior to your meeting the Associate Director. You will be required to provide your documentation at this point in the process. Make sure your documentation is from a qualified professional, should conduct the evaluation and provide name, title, professional credentials, including information about state Licensure or certification number.

    Documentation should include:
    • State specific diagnosis/es
    • State how the disability/impairment affects your academic performance
    • State whether it is temporary, long-term or permanent
    • Recommendations for academic adjustments or accommodations
    • Determination of accommodation is based on what is deemed appropriate and reasonable  by the OARS office at NJIT.
  3. Meet with Associate Director to discuss reasonable accommodations (via zoom or telephone)

FIRST MEETING – WHAT TO EXPECT

During your first meeting at the OARS office, we will discuss your disability and accommodations that you are seeking. We can figure out what barriers you are facing and what we may be able to put in place to minimize those barriers to create an inclusive environment. We will work with you to plan for any next steps and refer you to other resources, where appropriate. Bring your documentation to the appointment.

DOCUMENTATION

Can be submitted in person in Kupfrian Hall room 201 between 8:30am-6pm Monday- Friday. You can also email it to OARS@NJIT.EDU


***Documentation may include, but is not limited to, an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), 504 Plan, neuropsychological assessment, psychoeducational testing report, letter from your provider.
