Application Process and Deadlines

NJIT is excited to welcome exchange students from around the world!

Incoming Exchange Students

Individuals interested in joining NJIT as a J-1 Exchange Visitor are required to follow the application process outlined below:

  1. Complete the exchange program application form. Please be sure to complete all sections of the form.
  2. Complete the DS 2019 request form and provide supporting financial documentation. Note that course registration occurs when you arrive on the NJIT campus. Courses offered at NJIT can be found here.
  3. NJIT requires that all J-1 students provide proof of English proficiency at the time of application. We accept the TOEFL IBT (minimum 79), IELTS (minimum 6.5) and Duolingo (minimum 120) exams. If you are using Duolingo, indicate that in a note on your application form.

To submit your application you must email the following documents to NJIT:

  • Application for Exchange Program
  • DS-2019 Eligibility Request Form
  • Supporting financial statements (as mentioned on page 2 of the DS-2019 Eligibility Request Form)
  • Current transcript issued by the home institution (minimum GPA 3.0/4.0  required)
  • Copy of the passport
  • Proof of English proficiency
  • Architecture and design majors: students are required to provide a portfolio. Acceptance is subject to department's approval.

Once a student is nominated by their host institution Study Abroad Coordinator, the student will be emailed instructions on next steps.

The application deadline for the fall semester (September start date) is May 1. The application deadline for the spring semester (January start date) is October 15.
