We strongly recommend that you proactively reach out to your embassy if you are unable to book return flights home. A growing number of embassies are posting special communications on their websites and social media for visitors (students, tourists, scholars, and others) in order to make contact with them. Some foreign governments are registering citizens who are seeking flights home.
Remember: You must keep NJIT notified of all travel plans.
Yes, you still technically have a 30-day grace period following the program end date. However, we strongly encourage you to follow CDC guidance and consider health, safety, and welfare implications for travel at this time.
Yes, you must extend your insurance coverage for the entire duration of your program, including the 30-day grace period. If you purchased your own insurance you must pay for this extension.
At this time there is no guidance from USCIS that the 2-year rule will be waived so students and scholars should operate under the assumption that it is still in effect.
U.S. embassies and consulates suspended all routine immigrant and nonimmigrant visa services. Routine visa services will resume as soon as possible, but a specific date at this time cannot be provided. Note that an exchange visitor currently on an exchange program whose visa has expired and who does not plan to travel outside of the U.S. does not need to renew his or her visa.
