Employment for F-1 Students

Employment for F-1 Students

The Department of Homeland Security's Bureau of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) closely regulates on and off campus employment for F-1 students.

If you are an F-1 student you may be eligible to work on campus while attending NJIT. For more information about on campus employment, visit our page below:

On Campus Employment

Before working off campus, you must obtain authorization for off-campus employment.  You must apply for one of the following options through the Office of Global Initiatives (OGI):

Curricular Practical Training
Optional Practical Training
Economic Hardship

Engaging in ANY off- campus employment without prior authorization from OGI is a serious violation of your F-1 status and reason for termination of your SEVIS record.
