Course Requirements:

Department of Humanities and Social Sciences
- ENGLISH 101/102
- Students may complete equivalents of ENGL 101 and/or ENGL 102 at other colleges or universities during the summer session only if the course(s) is (are) not concurrently offered at NJIT. The duration of the summer course at the other institution must be eight weeks or more and the modality of the course cannot be online. Advanced approval from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences is mandatory.
- Winter Session: Students are not permitted to enroll in corresponding versions of ENGL 101 or ENGL 102 at other colleges or universities during the winter session.
- ENGLISH 101/102

- HUM/HIST/COMM/ENGL/PHIL/LIT/THTR at the 200 or 300 levels
- If NJIT is offering any of the above courses, we will not permit students to take the course at another institution.

- This course must be completed at NJIT as it is an NJIT specific course.

Department of Mathematical Sciences
- Calculus I and II (equivalents of MATH 111 Calculus I, MATH 112 Calculus II, MATH 113 Finite Mathematics and Calculus I ) may be taken in the summer at other colleges/universities where the duration of the summer course is eight (8) weeks or more.
- POLICY:
- For an NJIT student to receive credit for courses taken at other institutions during the summer, they must follow the procedures and comply with the policies found in the NJIT catalog: catalog.njit.edu/undergraduate/academic-policies-procedures/. In particular the student must obtain approval from the DMS transfer credit advisor. Please note that approval is contingent on the following: NO APPROVALS WILL BE ISSUED FOR ONLINE / DISTANCE LEARNING COURSES.
- Student must obtain a signed Approval for Undergraduate Courses at Other Colleges form.
- Student must submit signed form to the NJIT Registrar's Office.
- If students do not have a signed approval form prior to taking a course at another college, the course will not transfer, even if it is successfully completed.
- Courses taken at other colleges must be at least eight weeks in duration.
- STUDENTS TAKING A PREREQUISITE COURSE AT ANOTHER COLLEGE: Students who wish to take a class at a different college that is a prerequisite for another NJIT math course may obtain a prerequisite permit only AFTER they have completed the prerequisite course and have earned a grade of C or higher. Detailed instructions about how to obtain a prerequisite permit are located on the "Approval for Undergraduate Courses at Other Colleges" form.

Computer Science
- A student is allowed to take an equivalent of a CS course outside NJIT only in rare situations. For example, when it is the last course required for graduation and it is not currently offered at NJIT.
- The only Community College courses allowed are those listed as equivalent in njtransfer.org
- Either the CS Associate Chair or the CS Chair have to approve the course equivalency before taking the course.

- A student is allowed to take an equivalent of a IS course outside NJIT only if the course is not offered at NJIT during that semester
- Students are only permitted to take 100 and 200 level courses at another institution.
